Sun XunSun Xun is one of China’s most exciting contemporary artists, best known for animations composed of thousands of ink paintings, charcoal drawings and woodcuts. With minimal dialogue, his hand-made films question ideas of truth and explore the shifting nature of memory, history, culture and politics.

The exhibition identity was informed by Sun Xun’s reflections on black holes, which he describes as a way of discovering something entirely unknown. This idea shaped a visual language grounded in rich blacks and a distinctive contemporary serif typeface. The catalogue cover extends the concept by reversing the design on the back, referencing the idea of parallel worlds that appears throughout his work.
